Thesis:
Hurston uses motifs and symbols to enhance her style and help the reader better understand the setting and how the characters really feel. This has the effect on the reader of focusing the attention on certain aspects more than others and create a certain tone and mood. Motifs are a big part of developing a theme and especially so in this novel.

What do you mean by her style? Do you mean that those make her unique as a writer? The thing you said about that she uses them to make readers focus on one part really makes sense. I hadn't thought of that before.
I feel like this might be really broad. Maybe just pick one motif or symbol and focus on what that specifically does in the novel?
I think that you should pick one motif or symbol and focus your thesis around that specific one. In your thesis you could explain how that one motif or symbol connects to others, but make the focus on only one.
I dont think she is trying to make you focus on anything more than anything else...And also, pick one motif to relate to the theme.
Which motifs did you find?
